Features & Benefits: Coffee
Brewing System
It’s a good idea to let your machine warm up a bit brewing the first cup – this ensures that your espresso will be at the ideal temperature. On the left side of the Café Chic is an on/off button. When pressed, the on warning light will illuminate, as will the heating indicator lamp located on the right side of the machine.
When the indicator lamp turns off, the boiler has reached the right temperature for brewing. Measure out your coffee grounds into the filter, and press down lightly with the provided tamper. To brew, lock in the portafilter onto the machine and press the coffee dispensing button, which is located to the right of the indicator lamp and has a small coffee cup symbol next to it. When you have the desired amount, press the dispensing button again to stop the flow.
ARIETE Thermocream System
Crema is the golden marbleized foam created when a shot of espresso is brewed at the proper pressure and grind. Many espresso drinkers prefer their foam thick and consistent, and that’s why the Café Chic gives you the choice on how much crema is produced by offering an additional Thermocream plastic disc and silicon ring that fit into your portafilter. For finer crema, use only your regular portafilter and filter. For thicker crema, place the additional Thermocream plastic disc and silicon ring between the portafilter and filter, and brew as you normally would.
Pods or Grounds Coffee?
The Espressione Café Chic brews using either ground coffee or pods. Ground coffee gives you more variety in flavors, brands, and blends by allowing you to grind your own beans, measure, and tamp. Pods are pre-ground, measured, and tamped; all you have to do is insert into the portafilter and begin brewing, making them a convenient option for on-the-go brewing. With the Café Chic, the choice is yours.
Features & Benefits: Frothing and Hot Water.
Steaming and Foaming Milk
The Maxi Cappuccino attachment foams and steams milk for great café-style drinks. Enjoy cappuccinos, lattes, and rich hot chocolate made with this steam wand. To begin, press the steam button, located under the coffee dispensing button and identified by a steam icon.
The steam indicator light directly to the left of it will turn on, and the heating indicator light also illuminates, showing that the water in the boiler is being heated for steaming. When the heating indicator light turns off, the machine is ready to steam. Turn the steam-dispensing knob, located on the top of the machine, to begin steaming. When the milk has reached the desired consistency, close the steam-dispensing knob and press the steam function button again to turn this function off.
Hot Water Dispensing
The Café Chic’s Maxi Cappuccino attachment can also dispense hot water. When the machine is heated to normal brewing temperature, press the coffee dispensing switch, then immediately turn the steam-dispensing knob. Nearly 7 oz of hot water can be dispensed at once.
Features & Benefits: Care, Maintenance and Other
Water Reservoir
The 42 oz water reservoir is easily removable for refilling and cleaning. It is located on the right side of the machine, below the steaming and brewing buttons. For the freshest tasting espresso, it’s a good idea to clean out the reservoir periodically with a sponge or damp cloth.
Drip Tray and Cover
The drip tray and cover catch the drips and spills you might have, and are easily removable for cleaning. Empty the drip try when it fills, and clean the drip tray and cover under running water. No special cleaning solvents are needed.
Cup Warmer
A metal cup warmer on top of the machine provides a storage place that also pre-heats your cups. Brewing hot espresso into a cold cup can cause the temperature to drop rapidly; to better preserve the temperature, preheating your cups is a must.
