Illy is an italian brand and I am an italian who came to US 6 years ago: I claim my review does not have any shallow food-nationalism bias, but it might well be that I am influnced by my upbringing.
This coffee is roasted much less than what americans are used to think as the “italian roast”; Illy calls it “medium roast”. To give you a benchmark, it is roasted less than ANY Starbucks coffee I tried so far. The roasting can be seen by comparing the color of the powder.
I do not like this coffee. I consider it to be under roasted. I much prefer the Starbucks that I consider to be slightly over roasted and even a bit burnt, to this swill. No matter how many shots of Illy used it still tastes weak to me. I am sure many people like it and they can go ahead. But if you like the darker roasts I would advise you to avoid this.
