Bodum makes great French press coffee makers. Be aware that this model has a plastic frame, they make more elegant models with chrome frames. Otherwise, the construction and performance are the same (basically, the same glass carafe, and filter mechanism). The addition of the cups is nice, and the stirrers are excellent for mixing the hot water and grounds prior to steeping. There are better battery (and rechargeable) milk frothers for < $30; I have a BonJour Primo Latte, which does an excellent job and has it spiffy stand. But getting a bonus frother if you don’t have one already (or could use one at the office!) is nothing to sniff about.
My husband is the main coffee drinker in the house, so I bought him this set as a gift. We ground up some coffee beans and made some of the best coffee I’ve ever had! The flavor from the press truly is much different than from a drip coffee maker, and much better! It does leave some residue at the bottom of the cup, though, and is very strong.
It says it makes 4 cups, but it makes 2 nice-sized cups, which is perfect for my husband and me.
My favorite part of this set is the milk/cream whipper, which makes WONDERFUL frothed milk for lattes and things. I use it every day for all kinds of drinks.
This is very much worth the price! It actually makes me excited to try out different types of coffees, as the flavor of the coffee stands out so much more than it does in paper-filtered coffee makers.
bought this set in a local coffeeshop for the same price–my frother looks slightly different than pictured here and on the box, if that bothers you (the frothing part is metal wire).
The pot is big enough for about four cups of coffee (it says eight, but that’s if you’re making cappuccino). The press makes wonderfully strong coffee, and it is no more difficult to clean than a drip pot (and there are no filters to buy). The cappuccino you get with the frothed milk is as good or better than anything you’d get at a local cofeeshop.
A caution–when hot, the glass beaker will slip out of the plastic frame, and when cold, it will not go back in.
