The KN-8828P is a fully programmable coffee bean roaster. The Hottop is computer controlled and unlike similar machines it roasts to a “profile” like a commercial coffee roaster. It also has a massive capacity of 250g of green coffee. It’s one of the most expensive coffee roasters available for the domestic market, but that’s mainly because it’s the best. It’s a robust, well engineered machine producing a very high quality result.
The Hottop has seven programmable roast levels, from a light roast to really dark. However the operator is always in full control and as you learn more about coffee roasting you can over-ride the programming and decide for yourself when a roast should be complete, based on how you like your coffee. The following items are displayed on the control panel for your viewing pleasure, or knowledge if you prefer:
* Countdown timer to show total amount of time left in the current roasting process.
* Current roasting chamber temperature.
* Fan state and relative speed
* Current stage of the roast cycle (Roasting, Plus Time, Cooling, etc.).
* Eight programmable roasting segments are available to be programmed. A horizontal bar shows the portion of the programmed temperature achieved for that segment.
* In the same way, a vertical bar shows temperature progress, using four squares, each representing 25%, to show the progress of the programmed time.
* A time display shows the amount of time left for the active segment.
* A bar representing your programmed temperature for that segment.
Safety Features
The chaff tray must be removed between cycles and when bean temperature reaches 414 F, the machine will signal the user by beeping for thirty seconds. This warns the user that the beans are approaching the point where they may be burnt or even ignite. During this thirty-second warning period the user MUST press the “Enter” button. If the button is not pressed the machine will automatically eject the beans into the cooling tray.
