The Solis Maestro Conical Burr Grinder is an industry benchmark of craftsmanship and beauty. The Maestro is designed with loads of built-ininnovations, including several unique features suggested by the world’s most respected coffee experts. Some of the most coveted features include: smooth, quiet operation, (from enhanced motor noise isolation); conical Swiss made cutting burrs, a selectable fine grind critical for perfect espresso extraction, a selectable coarse grind critical for perfect French Press brewing, and greater than a 50% grinding variance compared to other grinders in its class.
The range of grind is 30% greater than the original Maestro. This increase is on the coarsest settings making it easier to get the perfect grind for drip and French press brewers. The number of grind settings has been increased by over 100% to 40 levels, resulting in a huge range of grinds. The key advantage of the increased settings is precision fine-tuning of your espresso grind settings. The Maestro is designed and assembled in the USA with lots of innovative features built in. These include a list of unique features requested by some of America’s most respected coffee experts.
Some of the most requested features include smooth, quiet operation which is the result from motor isolation; conical burrs that give a fine grind critical for perfect espresso extraction, over 50% greater grind adjustment compared to other grinders in its class, ranging from a fine Turkish grind to a nice even French coffee press grind, and a special gear reduction for slow rotation, ensuring the retention of the aroma and flavor of the freshly ground beans. It features a powerful 160 watt electric motor that won bog down when grinding at fine settings.
At the center of the grinder is its 40 mm hardened cone shaped grinding wheel assembly, referred to as conical burrs. Conical burr grinders, in additional to being tougher and longer lasting than other types of grinders, are exceptional at producing consistent grinds from very fine to very coarse. You can go here to learn more about why conical burr grinders are superior to blade grinders.
The Maestro Conical Burr Grinder is one of the most eye pleasing grinders on the market, but the beauty isn’t skin deep. Inside is the heart of a great grinder that can grind coffee beans for any coffee brewer, whether it is an espresso machine, drip coffee maker, or French press coffee maker.
Extra Slow Speed Means Less Heat Means Better Flavor. Slower grinding means not only a quieter grind, but a cooler grind, resulting in less flavor oils being released during grinding. Most quality conical burr grinders turn slower than blade grinders, but the Solis Maestro has gone a step further. The unit has been upgraded with a DC converter to power a massive 240 watt DC motor, which is twice as powerful as the previous Solis Maestro motor. In fact, at just 450 RPM, the Solis Maestro Burr grinder delivers the quietest, coolest grind in its class. The new circuitry also incorporates an automatically resetting thermal cutoff switch for optimal performance.
The Baratza Maestro Plus was designed in the USA by the Baratza importers and it is built in the USA. However, the quality components that make up the heart of the Maestro are from Switzerland. At the center of the grinder is the hardened cone shaped grinding wheel referred to as a conical burr. Conical burr grinders are exceptional at producing consistent grinds, from very fine to very coarse, and they are particularly tough and long lasting. Thanks to the slow speed at which the conical burr turns, the noise level is considerably less than conventional flat burr grinders and they are less messy.
From French Press to Turkish. Many burr grinders claim to have a wide range of grinding ability, even incorporating twenty or more settings. But, without a precisely calibrated grinding assembly, these settings are for little more than show. Now with forty grind fineness settings, the Solis Maestro is totally capable of grinding for the any application: from the coarsest, like French Press brewing, to the finest, like Turkish coffee preparation. A new triple-supported seating structure with a redesigned base for stability allows for ultimate grinding precision at any setting.
Less Mess Equals Longer Life. Static build-up and a lack of containment in the grinding chamber are the usual suspects when it comes to excessive grinds. No matter how tidily you try to grind, it seems like coffee grounds always wind up where you don’t want them: on the counter, on the floor, or - what’s worse - inside the grinder’s sensitive components. The improved tightly sealed grinding delivery assembly ensures that coffee grounds go where they are supposed to: into the grounds collection container. Additionally, the collection container itself is made of an anti-static material.
Direct Grind-to-Porta-Filter Option. Using a porta-filter pump espresso machine? No problem, the Maestro was actually designed with such machines in mind. Just remove the ground coffee collection bin and reveal a curved porta-filter access area; grind directly into the porta-filter from the anti-static grinding chute.
Rare on any coffee grinder priced under $300, the Baratza Maestro has a timer switch that allows you to set the grinder to automatically control the grind duration so you don’t have to monitor the grinder yourself. On the front of the grinder there is a button that you can manually control the on/off function. When pressed, the grinder will start, then immediately turn off when the button is released. This is nice if you wish to grind a small amount of coffee for espresso.
One important and often overlooked task required of owning a good coffee grinder is routine cleaning. To clean the Baratza Maestro, just remove the coffee bean hopper to expose the grinding chamber which takes about 5 seconds. At this point the outer cutting wheel simply lifts out. You can perform a thorough cleaning to remove built up coffee grounds around the main cutting wheel and then reassemble the grinder in only 8 seconds. No other coffee grinder on the market makes it so easy to clean.
